Three dead, eight injured after gunfire from boat near North Carolina restaurant

Three people were killed and eight others were injured Saturday night after a gunman fired from a boat toward a restaurant at the Southport Yacht Basin in North Carolina, authorities said.

A manhunt was underway and a person of interest was being questioned, authorities said. The shooting occurred at about 9:30 p.m. near the American Fish Company restaurant. The City of Southport posted on Facebook just before 10 p.m. EST that there were reports of an active shooter in the area. A boat pulled up to the restaurant, fired multiple shots in its direction and sped off, authorities said. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office said it is assisting the City of Southport Police Department along with multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the county. Residents were urged to avoid the area and stay indoors.
