Trump Urges Bondi to Prosecute Opponents, Replaces U.S. Attorney

President Donald Trump publicly urged Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday to begin prosecuting his political opponents, saying in a Truth Social post that "We can’t delay any longer" and "JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!" The post addressed Bondi directly and named California Sen. Adam Schiff, former FBI Director James Comey, and New York Attorney General Letitia James as targets of potential charges, framing the matter as urgent action for the nation’s justice system.

Trump also criticized Erik Siebert, the former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who he ousted after Siebert told senior Justice Department officials that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against James. Trump then announced the appointment of his personal attorney-turned-White House aide, Lindsey Halligan, as Siebert’s replacement. "Lindsey is a tough, smart, and loyal attorney, who has worked with me for a long time, including in the winning fight against the Weaponization of our Justice System by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats, which she witnessed firsthand when she stood up for my rights during the Unconstitutional and UnAmerican raid on my home, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida," Trump wrote.

The Eastern District of Virginia had opened an investigation into James for alleged mortgage fraud tied to a 2023 home purchase. James won a multi-million dollar civil fraud judgment against the Trump Organization last year, a development Trump has previously vowed retaliation for. When Siebert made it clear that there was no case against James, Trump publicly attacked him, saying "I want him out." Siebert resigned shortly thereafter.

The three people highlighted in Trump’s post have all investigated Trump in some manner: Schiff presided over Trump’s first impeachment trial, and Comey, an Obama appointee who Trump fired in 2017, led the investigation into potential ties to Russian operatives. Trump spoke briefly to reporters after publishing the post, saying it was not meant to critique Bondi but to urge his Attorney General to move with haste in prosecuting his political opponents. "If they’re not guilty, that’s fine. If they are guilty, or if they should be charged, they should be charged, and we have to do it now," he said.

The post arrives amid a broader backdrop of ongoing political and legal tensions involving Trump, his allies, and investigations by state attorneys general and federal prosecutors.
