A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another 15-year-old was fatally stabbed in Moss Side, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers were called to Monton Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday following reports of a "disturbance involving a number of people." The victim was found with stab wounds, treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The arrested teenager remains in police custody for questioning.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, of the City of Manchester district, said a "thorough investigation plan" was under way as officers worked to identify and locate the person or persons responsible. He said specially trained officers were supporting the victim's family and that an increased police presence would remain in the area over the coming days.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a section 60 order — which allows officers to stop and search people in a defined area without the need for reasonable suspicion — was in place until 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Police asked anyone with information or who was in the area at the time to contact them, quoting incident log 2327 of Sept. 15.

Information can be reported to GMP via 101, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Officers stressed that 999 should be used in an emergency.

Detective work at the scene and inquiries are continuing. No further arrests have been announced. The force did not release the names of either the victim or the arrested teenager because both are minors and to protect those affected.

The case has been recorded as a murder investigation while detectives examine CCTV, mobile phone footage and witness accounts to establish the events leading up to the stabbing. Police urged anyone who had dashcam or doorbell footage from the area shortly before or after the incident to come forward.

Local residents who witnessed the incident were described by police as likely to feel shocked and upset; officers said they would continue to engage with the community as inquiries continue. The force did not provide further detail on motives or the precise circumstances that led to the fatal injury.
