15-year-old arrested after teenager stabbed to death in Manchester

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another 15-year-old was stabbed to death during a disturbance in Manchester, Greater Manchester Police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday on Monton Street in Moss Side, where officers found the victim with stab wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. A 15-year-old suspect remains in custody for questioning.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney of the City of Manchester district said a "thorough investigation plan" is under way as officers seek to establish the circumstances that led to the death. He said specially trained officers are supporting the victim's family, who have been made aware of the arrest.

Police said the incident followed "a disturbance involving a number of people." A Section 60 order — which gives officers powers to stop and search people in a defined area — was authorised and was in place until 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers remain in the area and Greater Manchester Police said residents could expect an increased police presence "tonight and over the coming days."

Detectives appealed for anyone who was in the area or who has information to contact police, quoting log 2327 of 15/09/25. Information can be reported by calling 101, by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via the force's online reporting tools. Police asked members of the public to call 999 in an emergency.

The force said those who witnessed the incident may understandably be shocked or concerned and urged anyone with mobile phone footage or other evidence to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are working to identify and interview witnesses and to gather forensic and CCTV evidence from the area.

No further details about the arrested teenager or the victim have been released while inquiries continue and family liaison is ongoing. The investigation remains active and police said they are committed to providing the victim's family with answers as the case progresses.
