15-year-old Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe fatally stabbed in Manchester

A 15-year-old boy, named by his family as Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe, has died after being stabbed on a street in Manchester, Greater Manchester Police said.

Mohanad was killed on Monday afternoon after an incident on Monton Street in the Moss Side area, police said. A 15-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as officers continue to investigate.

In a tribute, Mohanad’s family said they would "not allow his name to be known as yet another statistic in the rise of knife crime" and described him as "the baby of the family" who was "quick to laugh, easy to love, with a ready smile." The family added that he had an older sister and brother, many friends, and "an uncanny ability to make you laugh," often playing the class clown.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to Monton Street following reports of a disturbance involving a large group of people. Officers attended and treated Mohanad at the scene, but he later died of his injuries. No further details about the weapon used or the circumstances leading to the attack were released.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward and said inquiries were ongoing. Detectives are reviewing witness accounts and any available CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

The family asked that Mohanad be remembered for who he was, saying: "Mohanad deserves to be remembered for the young man who was loved by his family, and loved big in return, not as the boy whose life was taken with no thought or reason." They called for support from the community and for anyone with information to contact police.

The case adds to concerns about youth violence in the city and follows other high-profile incidents nationally that have prompted renewed appeals from authorities to curb knife crime. Greater Manchester Police did not provide further details about the arrested teenager or any suspected motive, and detectives have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant footage to contact them immediately.
