93-year-old man dies after being hit by car in Rathfriland, County Down

Rathfriland, Northern Ireland — A 93-year-old man died after being struck by a car on the Newry Road in Rathfriland, County Down, on Saturday night, police said. The collision occurred at about 22:45 GMT, and the victim, Patrick Joseph Brady, known locally as Patsy, from the Barnmeen area, died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a silver Toyota Avensis, did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries, according to police. The road near its junctions with Longstone Hill and Barnmeen Road was closed overnight to allow investigators to work at the scene, and it has since reopened.

Police have not released additional details about the crash. Information on possible witnesses or the cause of the collision has not been provided at this time.
