Argentina's Milei Relaunches Falklands Sovereignty Claim at UN
President Milei tells the United Nations the Falkland Islands are 'illegally occupied' and urges bilateral talks, drawing sharp responses from Britain and supporters of the UK position in the islands.

Argentine President Javier Milei used his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday to relaunch Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands, calling the archipelago 'legitimate' and 'unrenounceable' sovereignty. In a fiery speech, Milei urged Britain to resume bilateral negotiations over the so-called Islas Malvinas, framing the issue as a colonial legacy that remains unresolved despite decades since the UN's creation. 'I wish to reiterate our legitimate claim in terms of sovereignty over the Malvinas and the surrounding maritime areas that continue to be illegally occupied,' he said. 'In spite of the fact that 80 years have elapsed since the creation of the UN, colonial situations such as this one remain unresolved. For this reason, we call on the United Kingdom to resume bilateral negotiations.'
