Birmingham Mango nightclub closed after early-morning shooting as police investigate
Venue remains shut while authorities review security procedures; four people injured, one critically, in Bristol Street incident

A Birmingham nightclub stayed closed on Saturday after an early-morning shooting left a man in critical condition and three others wounded, police said. The incident occurred at Mango nightclub on Bristol Street, a busy route out of the city, prompting management to announce that the venue would remain closed until further notice as it reviews its security procedures.
West Midlands Police said a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday morning, and three women in their 20s and 30s were questioned on suspicion of violent disorder. Emergency services were called to the club at about 03:00 BST, where responders found four wounded victims: three men and a woman. The police are urging anyone who was in or around the venue at the time to come forward with information or dashcam footage to aid the investigation.
In a statement posted on social media, Mango nightclub’s managers said the safety of guests and staff was their top priority and that they were fully cooperating with the police in their investigation. The post said: "We are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation and will continue to support them in every way possible. As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe environment, we will be conducting a full review of our security procedures and working closely with the relevant authorities." The statement emphasized the venue’s commitment to a safe environment and said the security review would be conducted in partnership with the appropriate authorities as the investigation progresses.
The club’s leadership stressed that it would remain closed until further notice as it undertakes its security review, and managers pledged ongoing cooperation with authorities. The statement also noted that the venue would continue to support the investigation in any way possible as officers seek to determine what happened during the incident.
Acting Chief Inspector Michael Clarke of West Midlands Police appealed for information from anyone who saw the incident or recorded footage inside or around Mango nightclub. He urged anyone who was in the club at the time or who may have dashcam video to contact the police urgently, saying it was vital to piece together the sequence of events in the busy hours before dawn. Investigators said the attack occurred on Bristol Street, one of Birmingham’s main routes, underscoring the need for eyewitnesses and passersby to come forward with information that could identify suspects or clarify how the shooting unfolded.
Police have not released a motive for the attack and have not ruled out additional arrests as the inquiry continues. The incident has prompted renewed attention to security at nightlife venues in the city, with authorities and club owners emphasizing safety protocols and the importance of information from the public in solving the case. The investigation is ongoing as officers review surveillance footage and interview witnesses to determine whether there were additional participants or accomplices.
