Body found in woodland near Lloret de Mar believed to be missing British tourist Josh Rogers

A body found in woodland near the Costa Brava town of Lloret de Mar on Tuesday is believed to be Josh Rogers, a British tourist who disappeared from his hotel over the weekend. Police have not yet formally identified the deceased, but local reports quote investigators as saying it is highly likely the body is Rogers. British and Spanish authorities have been coordinating the search, and West Midlands Police has been informed as family members pressed for information.

Rogers, a 29-year-old from the Walsall area of the West Midlands, had been posting online about his holiday to Lloret de Mar in the days before he disappeared. Family members posted appeals on local English-language social media groups after he went missing, noting that his phone was off and that all his belongings remained in his hotel room. A relative wrote that Spanish and British police were aware he was missing and urged people to share information.

The discovery occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday when a man walking in woods near a residential estate just outside Lloret de Mar’s town centre found a body. Emergency crews including police, firefighters and medical responders attended. Police said there were no obvious signs of violence on the body, and investigators said identity confirmation would require tests and forensic analysis.

UK authorities have notified the family of the find, and relatives have continued to monitor social media as they await a formal identification. Rogers had previously posted a series of messages that suggested he was looking forward to the trip, including a photo from Birmingham Airport and comments such as “Get me on that plane” and “Roll on next Friday.” A post nine days before departure also indicated he was packing and counting down the days to travel.

The Lloret de Mar incident sits amid a broader context of Britons reported missing in Spain in recent weeks. On Saturday, Spanish police recovered a body believed to be that of Andrew Wade, 65, who had been missing on the Costa del Sol since mid-August; drones aided the search near Estepona. Separately, 76-year-old Clifford Wildgoose—who vanished from a bar in Puerto Banus near Marbella—was later identified by an American tourist who had seen social media appeals and subsequently returned to the United Kingdom after being treated in hospital.

Officials urged restraint and noted it was too early to determine the cause of death or confirm the person’s identity. Autopsy results and forensic tests are expected to provide further clarity in the coming days. Investigators stressed that, as with all missing-person cases, confirmation of identity and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance would be announced by the relevant authorities once complete.
