Anthonella Contreras Linarez, 30, was stabbed to death in a car ambush along Park Drive and City Island Road in the Bronx around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. The couple had pulled over outside Rodman’s Neck so the husband could relieve himself en route to dinner with a friend on City Island, according to law enforcement sources.

According to the husband, two strangers on a moped pulled up and demanded money from his wife. When Contreras Linarez refused, the rider on the back stabbed her multiple times in the face, neck and body, the sources said. The same knife-wielding suspect then slashed the husband on his right arm as he rushed back to the driver’s seat. The couple drove to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle, where Contreras Linarez died from her injuries; the husband was listed in stable condition and has since been released from the hospital.

The two suspects fled the scene and had not been apprehended as of Thursday, police said, and the investigation was continuing. The couple had been on their way to dine with a friend on City Island when the attack happened, authorities added.

The case remains under active investigation by Bronx homicide detectives, and police have not released additional details about the suspects or a possible motive.

Husband treated after ambush

The victim’s family and City Island community are seeking information as detectives follow leads related to the late Wednesday incident. The road where the attack occurred is a waterfront corridor that sees regular summer traffic, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to establish a timeline and identify the suspects.
