Elderly Woman Found Dead Beside Bloodied Skateboard in NYC Apartment, Police Say Homicide
Police treat death as homicide; 76-year-old Zhu Hou found in Manhattan's Chinatown; investigation ongoing with no arrests.

An elderly woman was found dead Friday night in her Manhattan apartment, and police are treating the case as a homicide after she was found beside a bloodied skateboard on Monroe Street in Chinatown's Knickerbocker Village. Zhu Hou, 76, was discovered with trauma to the head and body, and the cause of death has not yet been formally confirmed. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Officers and paramedics found Hou inside her apartment just before 8 p.m. Friday. The case is being investigated as a murder, and no arrests have been made. The NYPD told the Daily Mail about these details, and The New York Post reported that Hou's son — who dialed 911 — may be involved and has a history of mental illness.
Neighbors said they heard shouting from Hou's home the day before she died, with the noise continuing through the night into Friday morning. One neighbor told the Post that cameras are everywhere in the building.
Knickerbocker Village is a government-subsidized housing complex that borders Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
Authorities expect the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation remains active, and there have been no announced arrests.
