A former BBC Radio journalist appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Monday after being charged with three counts of rape and one count of assault.

Jack Tymon, 27, of Ilkeston in Derbyshire, is accused of raping one woman on two occasions and raping and assaulting a second woman. The alleged offences are said to have occurred in 2017. Tymon spoke only to confirm his name, address, age and date of birth during the brief hearing and did not enter any pleas.

Tymon, who worked for BBC Radio Derby as a presenter and reporter between 2021 and 2025, was granted bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Oct. 13. Court papers lodged at the magistrates' court list three counts of rape and one count of assault.

Magistrates' courts in England and Wales routinely deal with initial hearings for serious offences before either dealing with guilt in summary cases or sending defendants to the Crown Court for trial. Tymon's case will be considered at the Crown Court at the next hearing.

The charges relate to alleged incidents that predate Tymon's employment at BBC Radio Derby. No further details of the allegations, including any alleged locations or the identities of those involved, were provided at the magistrates' court hearing. Prosecutors and defence representatives did not provide statements during the brief appearance.

Under English law, a person charged with an offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The court imposed bail conditions, and Tymon will return to court for the next scheduled hearing in October.

Representatives for Tymon and for his former employer did not make comments to the court during the hearing. Further procedural steps, including any applications or preliminary matters, are expected to be dealt with at Nottingham Crown Court on Oct. 13.
