Five-year-old girl allegedly stabbed in head at NSW primary school

A five-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed in the head with a pencil by a classmate at St Philomena's School in Moree, a regional town in northern New South Wales, on Sept. 17. The incident, described by the girl's mother and reported by the Daily Mail, has not been independently confirmed by authorities in NSW.

The girl's mother, identified as Eliza, said her daughter was 'covered in blood' when paramedics treated her at the school. Eliza told Daily Mail that staff refused to tell her how the injury occurred and have provided little information beyond what her daughter has shared.

Eliza said the school described the stabbing as a 'skin puncture' in an internal newsletter circulated through the school's app, a description she said minimized the incident. She criticized the school for delaying and denying information about the event.

The Sept. 17 incident at Moree was referenced in a Daily Mail article published on Sept. 23, with the note that more information would follow. The article said the school had not publicly disclosed how the injury occurred and had not provided additional details to the girl's family.

At this stage, the notes accompanying the report do not indicate any statement from the NSW Department of Education or other authorities. The Daily Mail's report described the situation as developing and indicated that the mother's account was the primary source of information available publicly at the time.
