Harbour fire in Methil destroys HGVs and trailers; no injuries reported

Seven fire crews were dispatched to Harbour View in Methil, Fife, after a major blaze broke out at the harbour around 09:20 a.m. The flames spread to a number of heavy goods vehicles and trailers stored in the yard, with thick black smoke visible from the town. There were no reported injuries, and Police Scotland said there was no evidence the fire was started deliberately.

Firefighters battled the blaze for hours, working to prevent it spreading to nearby storage areas and to keep access routes open. The last appliance left the scene just after 13:00, signaling the end of active firefighting. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said multiple heavy goods vehicles and trailers were affected. Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution while the smoke hung over the harbour. Harbour View and South Street were briefly closed and then reopened as conditions allowed.

Police Scotland said no criminality had been established and the area had been made safe. The force also noted that the fire was not believed to be arson at this stage, with investigators assessing the scene. Local authorities advised motorists and pedestrians to avoid the harbour while firefighters worked and to follow any safety directions.

An SFRS spokesperson noted that multiple heavy goods vehicles and trailers were affected by the incident, underscoring the scale of the blaze. The blaze prompted brief road closures around Harbour View and South Street but those routes have since reopened as crews completed checks and the site was declared safe.

By afternoon, authorities had confirmed there were no injuries and the scene was safe. Investigators are expected to determine the cause in due course.
