A man in his 40s has died from gunshot wounds and a woman in her 40s was rushed to hospital after a shooting in Clissold Park, north London, on Wednesday evening. Police were called to the park in Stoke Newington, Hackney, just after 7pm, and the incident is under investigation.

Investigators said the two victims were known to one another, and a firearm was recovered from the scene. The man received treatment from paramedics at the park but was pronounced dead at hospital; the woman was taken to hospital by the London Air Ambulance and her condition was not known at the latest update.

The Metropolitan Police provided the timeline, stating officers responded to reports of a shooting in Clissold Park, N16, at 19:06 BST on Wednesday, 17 September. A firearm believed to be involved was safely recovered at the scene. Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, who oversees policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said investigators are treating the incident as isolated and there is no wider risk to the public. He noted that officers are in the early stages of the inquiry and are working to establish the full circumstances while supporting those affected. A crime scene remains in place with an increased police presence.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify the next of kin for the man killed in the incident and to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the gunfire. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about potential motives or suspects as the investigation continues.
