Man dies after shooting in north London park; woman hospitalised
Police treat incident at Clissold Park as isolated; firearm recovered; investigation ongoing

A man in his 40s has died from gunshot wounds after a shooting in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, Hackney, just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. A woman, also in her 40s, was rushed to hospital by London Air Ambulance, and her condition is not yet known.
Metropolitan Police said the man and woman were known to one another and a firearm was later recovered from the scene. Paramedics treated the man at the park, but he was pronounced dead at hospital. The woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance and remains there as investigators work to determine her condition.
Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, who is responsible for policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said the incident is being treated as isolated. “We understand this is a deeply distressing incident for those involved, the witnesses in the park and the community in the surrounding area,” he said. “We are in the early stages of the investigation, but we believe the man and woman are known to one another and at this time, we are treating it as an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public. Officers are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of the incident and will continue to support those who are affected. A crime scene remains in place for investigation with an increased police presence.”
Police said the firearm believed to be involved was safely recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing as officers seek to identify the next of kin for the man and determine the full sequence of events leading to the shooting. In the meantime, officers have said there is no stated risk to the broader public, though residents in the area are being offered support as inquiries continue. The incident sparked heightened police activity in and around Clissold Park as investigators canvassed witnesses and collected evidence on Wednesday night.
Officials have emphasised that the case is at an early stage and that details beyond those released by the Met Police are not yet available. Investigations continue to determine what happened, why it happened, and how the victims came to be involved. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in building a clearer picture of the incident and to help identify any potential witnesses who were in the area at the time.
