Man dies of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at West Midlands takeaway
Seven others treated; police working with the Health and Safety Executive to determine circumstances

A man in his 50s was found dead at a takeaway in Bloxwich, West Midlands, on Friday night after concerns were raised about the welfare of a man at the shop, authorities said. Seven others, including emergency service personnel, were treated at the scene and at hospital for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
West Midlands Police said a small number of nearby properties were evacuated temporarily as investigators assessed air quality and safety. The force said it is working with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and the suspected poisoning.
Councillor Michael Coulson of Walsall said residents were allowed back into their homes around 03:00 BST on Saturday after tests were completed, and nearby shops reopened. Officials did not immediately indicate a potential source of the gas or how widespread the exposure might have been.
Investigators are reviewing the takeaway's ventilation systems, possible fuel-burning appliances, and other factors that could have contributed to the suspected carbon monoxide release. No arrests have been reported.
The incident is being investigated jointly by West Midlands Police and the Health and Safety Executive, with authorities saying updates would be issued as more information becomes available.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information is confirmed.
