Man in critical condition after Birmingham nightclub shooting; three injured

A man is in hospital in a critical condition and three others were injured after a shooting at Mango nightclub in Birmingham early Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Bristol Street in the city centre. One man, 32, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at about 9:30 a.m., and three women in their 20s and 30s were arrested in a car on the M6 in Warwickshire on suspicion of violent disorder. Video footage circulating on social media showed a heavy emergency response with ambulances and police cars on the busy road.

The street remained cordoned off on Saturday morning and reopened to southbound traffic in the afternoon as investigators examined the scene. Investigators have asked for witnesses or anyone who captured footage to come forward as the inquiry continues. Acting Chief Inspector Michael Clarke said the incident occurred in a busy nightclub on a main road out of Birmingham city centre and urged anyone who saw what happened or who may have recorded footage to contact police. He added that urgent inquiries have led to the arrests of three people, but the investigation is ongoing as authorities identify everyone involved.

Witnesses described the hours after the shooting as chaotic. Nazrin, who lives nearby, told the BBC it was baffling for a central area and not something you would expect in Birmingham. "It's quite baffling, it's not something you'd expect from this area as it's so central in Birmingham," Nazrin said. Dami Milburn, 26, told the broadcaster they were at home playing games when they heard a loud noise and initially thought it was a car backfiring.

Police appealed to anyone who was in the club at the time or who recorded footage to come forward. They asked for dashcam footage from motorists who drove past Mango during the early hours and reminded the public to quote log 561 of September 20 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111. West Midlands Police and Mango nightclub have been contacted for further comment.

Mango nightclub operates from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and describes itself as Birmingham's "number one nightclub" with a large following on Instagram. The venue posts about non-stop music, tropical vibes and memorable nights, according to its online profile.
