Multiple killed and injured in Dallas ICE facility shooting
Shooter found dead by self-inflicted gunshot; officials describe possible sniper attack as investigation continues

Officials say a shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility on Wednesday morning left multiple people dead or injured, and the suspected shooter was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said there were "multiple injuries and fatalities" and that the shooter had died by suicide, as police responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. local time, authorities said.
Local ABC affiliate WFAA reported that two ICE detainees were killed and one person injured in the attack. ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons told CNN that "preliminary information is a possible sniper" behind the shooting, and he cautioned that investigators were still determining who was targeted and who was shot: "It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees. At this point, we’re still working through that."
Several public figures reacted to the incident on social media. Vice President JD Vance posted on X that "The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I'm praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families." Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote on X: "Join me in praying for the victims of this heinous shooting. We will continue to do everything in our power to combat the alarming increase of targeted attacks against ICE and all law enforcement by evil, twisted individuals."
Authorities said the attack left scene authorities to determine the motive while coordinating with federal partners; investigators were expected to provide updates as the situation developed. ICE did not immediately respond to TIME's request for comment. The incident marks another instance highlighting concerns about violence targeting law enforcement at immigration-related facilities, underscoring the need for ongoing vigilance and security at federal sites as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
