Pedestrian dies after being pinned under car near Queens expressway
Two pedestrians were struck as a Mercedes rear-ended a Toyota turning onto the Van Wyck Expressway; drivers remained at the scene, NYPD says.

A Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a Toyota Scion that was stopped and waiting to turn onto the Van Wyck Expressway from Liberty Avenue in Queens on Saturday afternoon, authorities said. A 51-year-old woman became pinned underneath the Toyota as the crash unfolded around 2:30 p.m., and she later died at Jamaica Hospital, the NYPD said. A second pedestrian, a 34-year-old woman, was also struck and transported to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
The crash occurred near the Liberty Avenue on-ramp to the Van Wyck Expressway and involved two vehicles and two pedestrians. The Toyota, driven by a 58-year-old woman, and the Mercedes-Benz, driven by a 65-year-old woman, remained at the scene, police said.

EMS transported the pedestrians to Jamaica Hospital. The 51-year-old woman died there, and the 34-year-old remained in stable condition, according to the NYPD. The drivers remained at the scene. The NYPD said the crash is under investigation and no arrests or charges had been announced as of Saturday evening.
