A 16-year-old girl has been raped in the toilets on Blackpool's Queens Promenade, near Gynn Square, police said. The attack was reported around 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, and officers responded to the scene as investigations began.

A 16-year-old boy from Fleetwood has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody as inquiries continue. The scene on Queens Promenade has been cordoned off while investigators work to establish what happened. The teenager who has been arrested is being supported by specially trained officers as police gather evidence and speak to potential witnesses. A Lancashire Police spokesperson said that officers are at the early stage of the enquiry and a dedicated team has been assigned to the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 1204 of 20 September 2025.

Blackpool is known for its beach, pier and fairground and is a popular holiday destination for families and tourists. The town draws visitors from across the region, particularly during school holidays, and remains a busy hub for coastal leisure.

The case is being handled by a dedicated safeguarding and crime investigation team, and officers have asked the public to contact the police with any information, even if it seems minor.
