Police probe into 'unexplained' deaths in Oxfordshire village

A police probe has been launched into the 'unexplained' deaths of an elderly man and woman in the Oxfordshire village of Milton, Abingdon. The man was in his 80s and the woman was in her 70s; their bodies were found at a property in Milton. Thames Valley Police said the family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

Around 7 p.m. on Monday, September 15, officers were called to the unexpected deaths, and investigators began examining the scene. The force asked members of the public not to speculate and confirmed that at this time, no one else is being sought in relation to the incident.

Police and forensic teams arrived on Monday night and remained stationed outside the property as the investigation continued. Local worker Mervyn Beckett, who has lived nearby for about five years, described the scene as unusual for the quiet area. 'There were four or five police vehicles on the first night before the forensics then turned up,' he said. 'It is all very unusual compared to a normal incident.' He added that residents were left without much information and were concerned about whether there was an ongoing threat. 'The police aren't really telling us anything apart from two people have died,' he said.

Thames Valley Police said the investigation is ongoing and that officers remain at the scene at the Milton property. Forensics were seen at the site on Wednesday, with personnel in white protective suits moving to and from the building. The force reiterated that the family is being supported and asked the public to refrain from speculation while inquiries continue.

As the inquiry proceeds, officials emphasized that there is no confirmed cause of death and that the investigation will consider all possible factors. The case underscores the department's focus on ensuring the community’s safety in a quiet corner of Oxfordshire, where residents have described the area as normally peaceful.

The family of the deceased remains the focus of the investigators, who have provided support through specially trained officers. Police noted that further details would be released as they become available, while stressing that the public's cooperation is essential to avoid spreading unverified information.
