Police probe into unexplained deaths in Oxfordshire village

A police probe has been launched into the unexplained deaths of two elderly residents in Milton, Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The man in his 80s and the woman in her 70s were found dead at a property in Milton on Monday evening. Police were called around 7pm on Monday, September 15. Their family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. The investigation is ongoing, and Thames Valley Police asked the public not to speculate. At this stage, police say no one else is being sought in relation to the incident.

Thames Valley Police said the bodies were found at the Milton property and that investigators arrived at the scene soon after the call. The force said the investigation is ongoing and that officers and forensic teams remained stationed outside the property after arriving on Monday night. The department added that the thoughts of the family are with them during what is described as an extremely difficult time, and that the family will be supported by officers. 'Our thoughts are very much with the family at this extremely difficult time,' police said. 'The investigation is ongoing at this time. We would ask that people do not speculate, and we can confirm that at this time, no one else is being sought in relation to this incident.'

The scene at the Milton property remained active into Monday night, with police and forensics arriving and establishing a presence that continued into the early hours. By Tuesday and into Wednesday, officers were still stationed outside the house and forensic teams were seen moving through the area in white protective suits, collecting evidence and transporting items to a waiting van. The force did not indicate any new information beyond confirming an ongoing inquiry.

Residents in the area described Milton as a quiet, residential pocket. Mervyn Beckett, who works at a nearby garage about 50 yards from the house, said he had never witnessed anything like it. 'There were four or five police vehicles on the first night before the forensics then turned up,' he recalled. 'It is all very unusual compared to a normal incident. The police aren't really telling us anything apart from two people have died. We don't know if there is an ongoing threat or not, which is worrying, as we have seen this sort of stuff before on TV. It is very strange, and the police are not saying anything whatsoever.'

Thames Valley Police has not commented further as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The family is being supported by officers as the inquiry progresses.
