Police search for missing neighbour in Loch Lomond remains case
Neighbour of man whose Loch Lomond remains were found vanishes from Glasgow home; a hire van linked to the inquiry was found burnt out as searches extend to Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Police investigating the death of Graham Wright, whose remains were found Sept. 13 at Rubha Dubh near Firkin Point on Loch Lomond, are also searching for his missing neighbour, a man who vanished from his Glasgow home. BBC Scotland News understands that the neighbour from the Gorbals left home and has not been seen since. A hire van believed to have been used by the neighbour has been found burnt out, and police have been conducting searches at properties in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Mr Wright was reported missing on Aug. 25. He was last seen on Aug. 20 on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals, and police said he may have been in the same area again on Sept. 5. While the death is being treated as unexplained, BBC Scotland News understands that the manner of Wright’s death and the state of his body indicate he had been killed, though police have not confirmed a homicide.
The investigation into the neighbour’s disappearance has involved searches of properties in Glasgow and Lanarkshire, and authorities have not commented publicly on the status of the missing man. Earlier this week, The Scottish Sun reported that a flat in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, was also being investigated in connection with the case.
The inquiry comes amid broader police activity around related cases in the area. Police Scotland said inquiries into the disappearance of busker Lewis Cuthbert, a Strathaven resident last seen Aug. 4, remain ongoing as investigators piece together movements around the time Wright disappeared. A major incident portal was launched last week by the force, enabling residents and others to provide information anonymously.
Det. Supt. Peter Sharp, who has been leading the inquiries, urged anyone who was in the area to come forward. He said, “I would urge anyone who was staying in the area to come forward, as any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital. We are also appealing for information from anyone who was onboard a boat, or any other vessel, or anyone who may have been using the water near to Firkin Point.”
The development underscores the ongoing nature of the probe into Wright’s death. Police have not ruled out any line of inquiry, and investigators are continuing to pursue leads in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the finding of his remains and the related disappearance of the neighbour.
