Queen Camilla wears blue jeans at Braemar Literary Festival in Scotland

Queen Camilla, 78, stepped out in Scotland on Saturday wearing blue jeans and a navy puffer jacket as she attended the Braemar Literary Festival at The Fife Arms in Royal Deeside. The three-day event, which started on Friday, is in its fourth year and celebrates literature in a setting that brings together novelists, historians, artists and actors with readers of all ages in a rural venue.

Camilla joined a lineup of celebrated authors including Sir Alexander McCall Smith, Monica Ali and David Nicholls. Her son Tom Parker Bowles also attended, alongside restaurant critic Giles Coren. The royal was accompanied by Iwan Wirth, co-owner of The Fife Arms and a prominent art gallery figure. She wore a navy jumper under a blue puffer, complemented by blue loafers, blue socks and a lighter-blue clutch.

Establish in its fourth year, the festival is organized in collaboration with The Queen's Reading Room, a project linked to the queen's long-standing interest in promoting literacy. Camilla's book club, launched during the Covid pandemic, grew into a charity that champions literature and provides free educational content.

Camilla has attended Braemar multiple times, most notably at its 2022 launch when she met author Sebastian Faulks. The event is held near Balmoral Castle, where the queen has spent the summer with King Charles.

On Friday, the Court Circular noted Camilla's presence at The Fife Arms, though there was no mention of whether she stopped at Bertie's Whisky Bar, the hotel’s Edward VII–inspired venue. The Fife Arms also houses other bars and spaces, including The Flying Stag and Elsa's, plus The Cellar and Clunie dining room, which reflect the hotel's blend of art deco style and historic character.

Together, the festival and royal appearances underscore a continuing royal engagement with literature, set against the backdrop of rural Scotland and Balmoral.
