A second person has died in hospital after a two-car crash in Fife, police said on Sunday. The collision occurred at about 23:10 on Friday on the B981 between Cluny and the Chapel junction roundabout. The Volkswagen Polo involved in the crash was driven by a 48-year-old woman who died at the scene. Three passengers from the Polo were taken to hospital, but a 64-year-old man died from his injuries on Sunday morning. One other passenger remains in hospital. The other vehicle, a Nissan Qashqai, was driven by a 33-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence; she was taken to hospital but has since been discharged. The road was closed to allow inquiries and reopened around 06:30 on Saturday.

Officers said the crash investigation is ongoing and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage from around the time to come forward. Sgt Louise Birrell, of the local police division, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman and man who died. Inquiries into the crash are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything around the time to contact officers."

The crash occurred on the B981, a rural route serving Cluny and the Chapel junction area in Fife. Police confirmed the road was closed to allow inquiries and reopened around 06:30 on Saturday as investigators examined vehicle damage, road conditions, and any available CCTV or dashcam footage. Investigators are seeking additional witnesses and footage to establish how the incident unfolded. No further updates on charges have been released, and police reiterated that inquiries remain ongoing.
