Serious explosion prompts evacuation at Swindon warehouse

A serious explosion at a warehouse on the Groundwell Industrial Estate in Swindon prompted a major emergency response late Tuesday, with police, fire and ambulance crews at the scene around 7:30 p.m. BST.

Wiltshire Police described the incident as serious and said a large cordon is in place around the scene. Officers are evacuating the immediate area, and residents living nearby have been told to stay indoors and keep their windows closed for safety.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it is dealing with a large warehouse fire and has about 10 fire engines at the scene, along with other specialist vehicles. Dozens of firefighters, police and ambulance crews are on scene.

Dozens of residents have posted on social media that their homes shook as the explosion occurred.

Authorities cautioned that the situation remains fluid and urged the public to avoid the area while emergency responders work to contain the scene and assess any risks. Further updates will be issued by Wiltshire Police and the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
