Small fire in London Stansted lounge prompts partial closure and security delays

A small fire in the Escape Lounge at London Stansted Airport led to the temporary closure of part of the terminal and caused delays at security on Wednesday morning, the airport said.

London Stansted, located in Essex, said the fire produced a significant amount of smoke around 03:30 BST, but airport fire crews quickly extinguished it. There were no reports of injuries to passengers, a spokesperson said. Travellers were prevented from entering security for a period, and the area reopened at about 06:00 BST, though the airport warned that delays could continue and urged passengers to check flight status.

The airport later said it had no further details on the cause of the blaze. The incident resulted in a temporary disruption but no injuries were reported. Passengers are advised to monitor updates from the airport and their airlines as services recover.
