Sultana Drops Legal Action as Corbyn’s Left-Wing Project Faces Internal Rift

LONDON — Zarah Sultana has dropped a planned legal challenge and said she is seeking to reconcile with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn amid a bitter row at the top of their newly formed left-wing movement, Your Party, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

The disagreement centered on membership growth and control of the party’s direction as the duo sought to turn their chaotic agreement into a functioning political vehicle. Corbyn publicly criticized an allegedly authorised email sent to supporters and urged anyone who had paid up to £55 for membership to cancel their direct debits. Sultana countered that the portal was safe, secure and legitimate and continued to urge supporters to sign up now.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, Sultana said she would no longer pursue legal proceedings "despite the baseless and unsubstantiated allegations against me." She added: "I am determined to reconcile and move forward. I am engaged in ongoing discussions with Jeremy, for whom, like all socialists of my generation, I have nothing but respect. We will find a way to continue in a unified way centring the grassroots of our movement. I am certain this is possible — indeed, it must be."

Sultana further acknowledged that "many people are feeling demoralised" and said the movement’s focus remains on building a genuinely democratic conference and socialist party. She described the row as a regrettable situation but stressed that her motivation has always been to ensure the collective strength of their movement and to put members first.

The dispute has also prompted commentary from other former Labour MPs. Thelma Walker, who served as an MP from 2017 to 2019, told The London Economic that the apparent meltdown within Your Party demonstrated that neither Sultana nor Corbyn were fit to lead a party amid a highly public spat.

The broader context is a fractious push by some on the hard left to salvage a new political project in opposition to Labour, with Your Party still best described as an emerging vehicle rather than a fully formed entity. Observers note that the leadership fallout underscores the challenges of translating a high-profile collaboration into durable political organization, especially as both founders seek to rally grassroots support while navigating internal disagreements.
