Sydney mum pleads not guilty to attempting to drown two girls in Georges River
Hoda Elabady, 38, denies allegations she threw two girls into a river in 2023; she faced court and remains on strict bail ahead of a potential District Court trial.

A 38-year-old woman has denied allegations she tried to murder two girls by throwing them into a river two years ago, appearing in Campbelltown Local Court to plead not guilty to two charges of attempting to drown a person with intent to murder.
Hoda Elabady is accused of throwing the children into the Georges River at Liverpool, in Sydney's southwest, on September 11, 2023. Police were called to the area about 10:30 a.m. and found she had fallen from the Light Horse Bridge. The two girls were pulled from the river by a passer-by more than two hours later.
Elabady was arrested on November 27, 2024 after she was released from hospital. She remains on bail under strict conditions including surrendering her passport and not approaching any international point of departure. The 38-year-old is subject to a night-time curfew and must regularly report to police.
The case is listed for further proceedings in October, when she is expected to be arraigned before the NSW District Court to set a trial date. Lawyers have indicated it is unlikely a trial would occur before 2026, given the time needed to finalize pre-trial matters and court scheduling. The charges, two counts of attempting to drown a person with intent to murder, relate to the September 2023 incident in Liverpool.
