Trump official assaulted inside UN during General Assembly, attacker arrested

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services international-relations official was assaulted inside the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Sept. 25 during the General Assembly, according to Fox News.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly said the incident involved an HHS official who was followed into a bathroom, recorded, physically assaulted and verbally accosted by a deranged leftist at the UN who somehow entered the venue past multiple layers of security. The official is safe, and authorities arrested the assailant, Kelly added.

The anonymous official was at the UN to assist Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and to support ongoing discussions with U.N. representatives. The witness described a prolonged confrontation in which she was yelled at, recorded and subjected to hostile comments as she moved through a hallway on Sept. 25. She recalled being told she was a Nazi and a fascist as pro-Palestinian chants were heard nearby, and she said the encounter lasted about 10 minutes.

The attacker, a woman, was arrested by the New York Police Department and charged with assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. She was released from custody on Sept. 26, according to official summaries.

Deputy White House Secretary Anna Kelly said the U.S. Secret Service plans to investigate how the protester was able to enter a site described as a “major national security event.” Kelly emphasized that this incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of security at the UN during high-profile speeches and demonstrations.

A U.N. spokesperson responded with condemnation, saying the attack on a member of the U.S. delegation was “outrageous” and that the incident must be addressed swiftly with consequences. The UN added that it would work closely with the Secret Service to investigate the breach and review security procedures for future events.

The case follows a sequence of disrupted moments around President Trump’s activities at the General Assembly, including a stalled escalator and a malfunctioning teleprompter during his address on Sept. 23. Protests outside the Assembly continued throughout the week, underscoring a charged atmosphere in New York as world leaders gathered.

Officials stressed that the UN and U.S. agencies will conduct a thorough review of security measures and access controls in light of the breach, with authorities promising to share findings publicly as investigations proceed. The assailant is slated to appear in court on Nov. 13, 2025, and authorities did not indicate any linkage to broader organized activity at this stage.

In Washington, officials characterized the incident as a disturbing reminder of the vulnerabilities surrounding high-profile diplomatic events, underscoring the need for rigorous coordination between the UN, the Secret Service, and national law enforcement as investigations continue.
