Two people have been charged with the murder of 42-year-old Barry Furfey after he was found with serious injuries at an apartment building in Lisburn on Monday morning, police said.

A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman are due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with murder. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said Mr Furfey was discovered at an apartment building on Wardsborough Road, was given medical treatment at the scene and was taken to hospital where he later died.

The PSNI confirmed the charges on Tuesday but gave no further details about the circumstances of the incident or the relationship, if any, between the suspects and the victim. Court proceedings in Craigavon, which handles preliminary hearings for the Stormont area of Northern Ireland, are expected to take place on Wednesday morning.

Detectives investigating the case are continuing enquiries, the PSNI said. Police frequently appeal to members of the public for information and for anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam footage or other evidence to come forward; the force did not immediately issue such an appeal in its initial statement.

The incident has prompted a local policing response in Lisburn, a city to the southwest of Belfast. Police and emergency services attended the scene on Monday and secured the area while officers carried out inquiries.

No further details about the defendants, including whether they have legal representation or pleas entered, were released by the PSNI. Under Northern Irish court procedures, suspects charged with serious offences typically make initial appearances at a magistrates' court before any decision is taken on remand or transfer to higher court.

The PSNI said it would provide updates as enquiries progress. Anyone with information relevant to the investigation has been asked to contact local police.
