Two men shot in Wolverhampton; one dead, other in life-threatening condition

A man has died and another is in a life-threatening condition after a shooting in Wolverhampton, police said Friday. The two men were found in a car on Leicester Street in the Whitmore Reans area at about 03:10 BST, West Midlands Police said. The force said the investigation was at an early stage and urged people to avoid the area as a number of roads were closed.

The man in his 20s died at the scene, while the other man, in his 30s, was treated at the scene for life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, the West Midlands Ambulance Service said. Responders first treated the patient at the scene before medics took over and transported him to hospital.

West Midlands Police said the investigation is in its early stages and asked people to avoid the area. A number of roads remained closed as officers conducted initial inquiries and collected evidence.

Leicester Street sits in the Whitmore Reans district of Wolverhampton, a residential area northwest of the city centre. The shooting prompted police to establish a cordon and to issue an appeal for information from anyone who was in the area around 03:10 BST.

At this time, police have not disclosed any arrests tied to the incident. Investigators said the inquiry would be methodical and continue as officers review CCTV footage and canvass witnesses.
