Two separate knife attacks on New York City subways in Midtown on Saturday left a 38-year-old man hospitalized in stable condition and a 15-year-old boy injured, as investigators search for a suspect described as a light-skinned man wearing gray clothing and a beanie.

The first stabbing occurred on a southbound 6 train near Grand Central around 5 p.m., when the 38-year-old was stabbed in the torso during a dispute with another rider, police sources said. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital Center, where he remained in stable condition, according to authorities. The suspect was described as wearing all gray and a beanie; investigators said the two had a prior dispute before the attack.

About an hour later on the ACE line, a 15-year-old boy was slashed in the arm by another teen wearing a brown jacket at the 42nd Street stop, police sources said.

Earlier Friday, a man was stabbed in the back while waiting for a train on the Upper West Side, at 96th Street and Broadway, around 7 p.m., police sources said. A separate report noted that a teenager was stabbed on the ACE line in an unrelated incident. Police did not immediately say whether the cases were related.

There have now been four knife attacks on NYC subways this month, a pattern that has drawn increased scrutiny from state officials and transit authorities.

Governor Kathy Hochul pledged $77 million to keep NYPD officers in the subway system in 2026, saying the funding would bolster policing in the transit network.

Transit crime has dipped to its lowest level in 16 years, and overall transit crime is about 15% lower than it was in 2019, officials said, as authorities pointed to declines in some categories and ongoing monitoring of safety.

Authorities said they were reviewing surveillance video and asking anyone with information to contact police. No arrests were announced as of Saturday evening.

Investigations continue as detectives seek the suspect or suspects described by witnesses.
