A man died and two others were injured after a disturbance in Rhydyfelin, Rhondda Cynon Taf, in the early hours of Tuesday, police said. The incident occurred on Poets Close at about 00:40 BST.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 30-year-old man from Rhydyfelin and a 22-year-old man from Tonteg. A 20-year-old woman from Penygraig has also been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. The force also said the 30-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Det Supt Paul Raikes of South Wales Police said officers were investigating at pace, with an increased presence in the area and a cordon in place on Masefield Way between the Poets Close and Shakespeare Rise junctions.

In a statement, Pontypridd MP Alex Davies-Jones said she was in close contact with police over the “very serious incident” and would provide updates. She urged the community to care for one another, avoid sharing misinformation, and come forward with any information that could assist investigators.

Police said the man who died and the two men who were injured were all in their 20s.
