Two teens die in Gold Coast e-bike crash as Good Samaritan parents discover their own son at the scene

Two 17-year-olds were involved in a two-seat e-bike crash on the Gold Coast on Monday, with one teen dead and the other seriously injured after the bicycle collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander. The tragedy carried an extra layer of heartbreak for a local family when the parents of one of the riders arrived at the scene only to discover their own son among the victims.

Around 4 p.m. a family friend asked Jason and Gillian Gagg, residents of the area, to check on Jydon Meyers, who was believed to be involved in the crash. The couple drove to the intersection of Tallebudgera Creek Road and Fenton Drive in Tallebudgera and began to learn more about what had occurred. The scene unfolded as onlookers blocked the road and emergency responders worked to secure the area. It was there, according to the Gaggs, that they found their son Hudson Gagg, who had been riding on the e-bike. Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene. They also learned that Jydon Meyers, the other rider on the two-seat cycle, had survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. Prior to the discovery, the couple had attempted to contact Jydon, but his phone was not reachable.

The e-bike, described as having two seats, appeared to have collided with the Outlander, a 65-year-old Robina man who was the vehicle's driver. The driver was taken to hospital for shock and emotional distress, while Jydon Meyers was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition, with injuries to his legs and face. Authorities said the driver was cooperating with police as the investigation into the crash continued.

In the days that followed, the Gagg and Meyers families issued a message to the elderly driver, expressing sorrow for the unimaginable burden he now carries. They emphasized their shared grief and extended thoughts and prayers to the driver and his family as they navigate this difficult time. Kylie Meyers, who described Hudson and Jydon as lifelong friends, started a GoFundMe page to support medical and related expenses as Jydon begins a long road to recovery. The appeal highlighted the deep bond between the boys and the community’s desire to help the families through the ordeal.

Tributes began to accumulate at the crash site, with flowers and messages placed near a wooden post close to the intersection. Family and friends gathered to pay their respects as the community processed the loss of Hudson and offered support to Jydon. Online condolences and messages from local residents poured in, with many expressing sympathy for both families and acknowledging the fragility of youth.

Authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Police urged anyone with information to contact Sussex or the state police on 131 444. The ongoing inquiry aims to determine the exact sequence of events, including how the e-bike came to collide with the car, the roles of the riders and passenger, and whether any other factors contributed to the crash. The families and the community await fuller findings as the healing process begins.

The two families shared a long-standing friendship, and the story has drawn attention to the dangers that young riders face on coastal roads. In the days ahead, investigators will review vehicle data and any available surveillance to piece together how this tragedy unfolded. As Jydon begins his recovery, Hudson’s memory is being honored by those who knew him best, and a circle of support has formed around both families as they navigate an incredibly difficult period.
